QUICK ACTION NEEDED! Last August 24, 2005, the Governors of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental signed the Memorandum of Agreement on the establishment of the “Negros Organic Island”. This is aimed to position the 2 provinces to capture the burgeoning export market for organic products which is currently enjoying wide market acceptance in the Middle East, Europe and Japan. To ensure that the Island can maintain this status, and to provide contamination of standing crops from genetically-modified varieties, the Negros Occidental Provincial Board passed last April 25, 2007, Ordinance No. 007 Series of 2007, declaring a ban on living GMOs from entering the Province. |
