QUICK ACTION NEEDED! 

Last August 24, 2005, the Governors of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental signed the Memorandum of Agreement on the establishment of the “Negros Organic Island”. This is aimed to position the 2 provinces to capture the burgeoning export market for organic products which is currently enjoying wide market acceptance in the Middle East, Europe and Japan. 

To ensure that the Island can maintain this status, and to provide contamination of standing crops from genetically-modified varieties, the Negros Occidental Provincial Board passed last April 25, 2007, Ordinance No. 007 Series of 2007, declaring a ban on living GMOs from entering the Province.

Negros seizes more GMO shipments

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines -- Two more genetically modified corn shipments were intercepted in Negros Occidental on Wednesday as the campaign of the Negros Occidental provincial government against genetically modified organisms (GMO) continued.

| GM Crops Failed to Raise Yield |

This report by the Union of Concerned Scientists expert Doug Gurian-Sherman, a former biotech specialist with the US Environmental Protection Agency, shows that "despite 20 years of research and 13 years of commercialization, genetic engineering has failed to significantly increase  US  crop yields."
